Santa Claus will visit the track kitchen at Laurel Park Saturday, Dec. 17, to bring cheer and toys to children who are part of the Maryland racing backstretch family.
Toys will be distributed from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., and the kids will treated to cookies and hot chocolate. It’s the third year for the MTHA Toy Drive, and it continues to grow every year.
"This is one of our best events of the year," commented MTHA Executive Director David Richardson. "It's heartwarming to see the community of horsemen in Maryland come together to bring some holiday cheer to a few hardworking families who need it."
Family members in need signed up the children for toys, which came from various sources including the MTHA Christmas Party, a donation program held by the Maryland Jockey Club at Laurel Park on a recent racing day, and other donors.
“When the Toy Drive first started, we had about 30 kids, but this year we’re close to 60,” MTHA Director of Finance Rosemary Lishia said. “And the amount of toys we have collected has grown, too.”
