Laurel Park Community Day set for July 23

Make plans now to attend the first Laurel Park Community Day sponsored by the Maryland Thoroughbred Horsemen’s Association and Maryland Jockey Club Tuesday, July 23, in and around the track kitchen. It provides everyone with a chance to celebrate the hundreds of backstretch workers who care for Maryland-based racehorses.

The event will be held from noon to 4 p.m.

There will be “best housekeeping awards” for barns and dormitories, and anyone who brings a plastic stall fan will receive a new metal fan. (You must be on the list—stall numbers have been recorded in each barn.)

There will be plenty of barbecue-type food and non-alcoholic beverages, as well electric-cord and hose-nozzle giveaways, volleyball, a basketball tournament and yard games. A highlight will be a dunk tank featuring Major Mike Singletary, Chris Merz, Rick Allen, Victor Carrasco and Anthony Farrior—and perhaps some others.

Please note there will be extra dumpsters available for summer cleaning that day.
