The Maryland Jockey Club has issued its COVID-19 protocols and operational footprint for Maryland Million Day, Saturday, Oct. 24, at Laurel Park.
First post time for the 12-race program is 11:25 p.m. The card will feature eight stakes and four Maryland-restricted starter handicaps. The feature of the day is the $150,000 Maryland Million Classic.
The following information is geared toward owners, trainers and other racing participants:
- The Carriage Room will be the primary location for all horsemen on Maryland Million Day. Owners can park in the parking lot adjacent the Carriage Room with overflow space available in the Valet Parking Lot. Valet parking service will not be available.
- Owners will enter through the Carriage Room entrance and receive at most four wristbands and four food-truck vouchers per horse. Owners will be presented with wristbands and food-truck vouchers to accommodate the number in their party at check-in. Horsemen with wristbands will also be offered unlimited beer, wine, soda and water at the Carriage Room Bar and the Apron Tent Bar, which will have standing-room high-top tables.
- Two food trucks will be located on the asphalt area of the apron adjacent the Clockers Gate with access to and from the Carriage Room through the back doors. The grassy area off the apron will be available for additional outdoor seating with picnic tables situated along the homestretch.
- The box seating area along the glass on the second floor will also be reserved for Maryland Million Day horsemen, while the Conference Center located between the Carriage Room and track apron will be available with a limited number of round tables for indoor seating.
- Please note that trainers with horses in a Maryland Million race can enter only through the Horsemen's Gate near the Racing Office and paddock. All other Maryland Racing Commission licensees must enter through the Grandstand entrance.
- The MJC said check-in will process through the Eventbrite app and that it will distribute user names and passwords. The Eventbrite app will allow for real-time check-in status and allow for partial party arrivals. The guest list will searchable by horse/owner/trainer/race.
The MJC has formed a Horsemen's Assistance Team for Maryland Million Day: The Carriage Room owner check-in area will be staffed by Pamela Douglas and Haley Keller; the Winner's Circle will be staffed by Christine "Chrissy" Church to assist in setting up the trophy presentations; at the Horsemen's Gate, Eleanor Albert will assist with trainer and jockey check-in with assistance from Kieonna Black; the Apron Tent will be staffed by Grace Heim and Gloria Cinquegrani; and Phoebe Hayes will rove between all locations and support as necessary.
