2026 Out-of-State Owner/Developer Bonus Program Annual Report Available

The Maryland Thoroughbred Horsemen’s Association has released the 2026 Annual Report for the Maryland-Bred Out-of-State Owner/Developer Bonus Program, which provided $700,000 in bonuses for Maryland-breds competing at Colonial Downs and Delaware Park during Maryland’s summer racing break.

Now in its second year, the program’s funding increased by $100,000 over 2025, with $350,000 allocated to owners and $350,000 to developers. The report identifies 150 owners and 140 developers earning bonuses through the program.

Bonuses were calculated using a points system based on first-, second- and third-place finishes in eligible non-restricted overnight races, with point values tied to race conditions and comparable Maryland purse levels. A developer is the owner of a horse at the time of its first career start.

Owners and developers are encouraged to review the annual report for complete results, point totals and individual bonus earnings.

Fund disbursements are expected to begin by September 19, 2026. For owners and developers with inCompass accounts through the Maryland Horsemen’s Bookkeeper, owner and developer bonus funds will be combined and deposited into the corresponding entity’s inCompass account as one deposit. If a developer does not have an inCompass account with the Maryland Horsemen’s Bookkeeper, a check will be mailed to the address listed on the W-9 received for that entity.

Owners are also reminded that ACH transfers are available for their Maryland Horsemen’s accounts, allowing funds to be transferred directly to a personal or business bank account. To activate this service, complete the ACH enrollment form and return it to the Horsemen’s Bookkeeping Office. Transfers typically take one to three business days to process.
