June 30 Deadline Approaching for MRC License Renewals

The Maryland Thoroughbred Horsemen’s Association reminds all Maryland Racing Commission (MRC) licensees, except owners and trainers, that licenses for the 2026-27 licensing year must be renewed by June 30, 2026.
This requirement applies to all backstretch workers, exercise riders, and other individuals who require access to the stable area at Laurel Park.
Owners and trainers operate on a different renewal schedule and must renew their licenses prior to January 1 each year.
Licensing Office Hours
The MRC Licensing Office at Laurel Park will be open beginning at 9 a.m. on live racing days, including:
- Friday, June 19 through Sunday, June 21
- Friday, June 26 through Sunday, June 28
Additionally, the office will be open:
- Thursday, June 25 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.
During July and August, the Licensing Office will be open Monday through Thursday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Licensees are encouraged to call ahead at 301-725-0400, ext. 5377 or 5376 to confirm staff availability.
Fingerprinting Required for All Renewals
For the 2026-27 licensing year, all licensees must be fingerprinted as part of the renewal process. The fingerprinting fee is $30, and cash is the only accepted form of payment.
Licensees should plan accordingly, as the additional fingerprinting requirement is expected to increase wait times in the Licensing Office.
To help expedite the renewal process, applicants are encouraged to complete their license application before arriving.
License Applications
Applications are available:
- At the MRC Licensing Office
- At the MTHA Office in the Laurel Park grandstand
- On the Maryland Racing Commission website
The application can be downloaded as a printable PDF from the Commission's website.
