Maryland Horse Forum Aug. 8

Sunday, June 30, 2024

The 2024 Maryland Horse Forum has been scheduled for Thursday, Aug. 8, from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. in Owings Mills.

The event is free and everyone is invited to attend and participate. The forum, which typically focuses on the overall equine industry in Maryland, including the racing and breeding sectors, is developed based on an industry-wide survey.

“We’re thrilled to share the results of our comprehensive industry-wide survey, which received feedback from hundreds of individuals,” said Kevin Atticks, Maryland Secretary of Agriculture. “This valuable input has highlighted the key topics our community is eager to discuss at the forum. Some of the main issues on everyone’s minds include the need for more veterinarians and health professionals, strategies to attract new people to the horse industry, and maintaining our social license to operate. Additionally, preserving public land for recreational riding, ensuring horse welfare, and navigating legislation affecting the industry are high priorities.”

Atticks said the forum is designed to discuss issues and work with others in the equine industry to develop innovative solutions. The ideas and solutions will be compiled into a final report that will be presented to Gov. Wes Moore and released to the public.

The forum will be held at McDonogh School, which is located at 8600 McDonogh Rd. in Owings Mills. Registration will begin at 8 a.m.
