MTHA INVITES HORSEMEN TO PUBLIC DISCUSSION OF CLAIMING AUCTION PROPOSAL OCT. 22

Tuesday, October 13, 2026

The Maryland Thoroughbred Horsemen’s Association will hold a public meeting Thursday, October 22, 2026, at 11 a.m. Eastern Time via Zoom to discuss a proposed digital auction process for horses receiving two or more claims in a claiming race. MTHA members and others in the racing community are invited to ask questions, share concerns and offer suggestions.

Under the proposal, an online auction would take place within one hour of the race, with competitive bidding determining the purchaser and final purchase price.

Liza Hendriks and representatives of Inglis, the Australian bloodstock auction company, presented the framework at the MTHA Board’s October 1 meeting. They outlined how an Inglis-operated digital platform could support the process in Maryland if there is support for the proposal..

The public meeting will give horsemen an opportunity to review before it is brought to the MTHA Board of Directors for consideration of a possible endorsement. Feedback from claiming trainers, owners and other racing participants will help inform that review, particularly regarding how the proposed process could affect claiming activity in Maryland.

To join the meeting on October 22 at 11 a.m. Eastern Time, visit mdhorsemen.com/zoom.

There will be limited in-person attendance in the MTHA Conference Room at Laurel Park.
