MTHA To Hold Special Meeting For 2023 Election
The Maryland Thoroughbred Horsemen’s Association will hold a special General Nominating meeting of the membership for the sole purpose of receiving the report of the Nominating Committee regarding nominees for the Board in conjunction with the 2023 Board of Directors election. The meeting will be Tuesday, Oct. 17, at 11 a.m. via Zoom.
All 15 board seats are up for election. Directors are elected to three-year terms. The Board consists of seven (7) trainers, seven (7) owners and one (1) at-large director. The at-large seat is determined by the highest vote-getter of the remaining candidates.
Several individuals already have expressed their interest in running for the Board of Directors and their names have been provided to the Nominating Committee. Nominations can be made during the meeting and will be accepted if it (1) receives the endorsement of not less than ten (10) members and is accompanied by the written consent of the nominee to the nomination at that time, or (2) is accompanied by a petition signed by no fewer than 25 members and the nominee has consented to the nomination in writing.
Ballots will be mailed to all members beginning in late November with a return deadline of Dec. 31. In addition, new for 2023, the MTHA will offer the option to cast your ballot online, instead of by mail.

A general business meeting by the Board of Directors will be held at the conclusion of the General Nominating meeting. This meeting is open and Members are welcome to attend.

The Maryland racing community will come together in January to celebrate the life and legacy of Rodney Jenkins, a beloved trainer and equestrian who left an indelible mark on Maryland racing. Jenkins, a native of Middleburg, Va., passed away on Dec. 5 at the age of 80. A memorial service is scheduled for noon on Tuesday, Jan. 7, on the second floor of the clubhouse at Laurel Park.
