Friday, May 9, 2025

The Maryland Thoroughbred Horsemen’s Association (MTHA) extends its congratulations and full support to the newly appointed Board of Directors for The Maryland Jockey Club Inc., a nonprofit entity that will oversee live Thoroughbred racing at Laurel Park, Pimlico Race Course—the historic home of the Preakness Stakes—and a soon-to-be-constructed, world-class training facility in Carroll County.

This important development marks a major milestone in the effort to revitalize Maryland racing and secure long-term operational stability for the sport. The creation of The Maryland Jockey Club, Inc. is the result of years of collaborative effort, guided by the vision of Governor Wes Moore and the Maryland General Assembly.

"The newly appointed board is nothing short of outstanding,” said Katharine Voss, President of the MTHA. “It represents a diverse, highly qualified group of leaders who understand the many facets of this industry and the communities it supports. Their commitment, expertise, and passion will be essential as we enter a transformative era for Maryland racing.”

MTHA Executive Director David Richardson echoed those sentiments: “This board brings together a deep bench of experience across racing, business, veterinary care, and public service. We look forward to working closely with them as they guide Maryland racing into a new chapter of sustainability and growth.”
