Reminder: Backstretch Pension Plan Webinar 10/22 at Noon

Monday, October 21, 2024

The Maryland Backstretch Pension Plan has unveiled a new structure designed to provide participants with greater flexibility and more investment options.

Under this enhanced plan, John Hancock will serve as the record-keeper, offering participants access to a robust suite of tools via John Hancock’s participant website and mobile app. Through these platforms, plan members will be able to easily view their account balances, which will initially be invested in the plan’s “Qualified Default Investment Alternative” (QDIA) based on their age. Participants will also have the ability to adjust their investment options at any time through the website, mobile app, or by contacting John Hancock’s support team via their toll-free number.

To introduce these updates, the Maryland Thoroughbred Horsemen’s Association (MTHA) has scheduled a Zoom webinar for Tuesday, October 22, at 12:00 p.m.

During the webinar, participants will learn how to register through the various John Hancock platforms, and gain insight into the investment services and fund options available through the new plan structure.

This session will be a valuable opportunity for current MTHA Backstretch Pension Plan participants to ask questions and better understand the changes. Please note, the webinar is only for individuals already enrolled in the plan. The MTHA will continue to offer its traditional annual two-month online sign-up period each spring.
