Rogers Thanks Maryland Racing Community

Monday, June 3, 2024

The following letter was sent to the Maryland Racing Community from Mike Rogers, Acting President and General Manager of the Maryland Jockey Club. He will be leaving later this year as a new not-for-profit entity takes over MJC racing operations.

“As I write this, I find myself filled with a mix of emotions. With a heavy heart, I write to say goodbye to each and every one of you as my tenure as the President of the Maryland Jockey Club comes to a close at the end of this year. Preakness 149 marked the end of an era for me, and I couldn’t let it pass without expressing my deepest gratitude to all of you.

“When I first stepped into this role, I could never have imagined the journey that lay ahead. Little did I know that what started as a professional obligation would soon transform into a deep connection with many members of this remarkable community. Your dedication, passion, and unwavering commitment to excellence have been nothing short of exceptional. The Maryland racing community is always defying the odds, and I am deeply grateful for the opportunity to have been a part of it.

“As I reflect on my time here, I am filled with sense of pride. Together, we have faced challenges head-on, overcome obstacles, and achieved remarkable feats. From the detailed planning to the flawless execution, Preakness 149 stands as a testament to our collective strength when we all work together. It is a moment we can all look back on with immense pride.

“But beyond the glitz and glamour of race day, what truly sets this racing community apart is the genuine care for the horses and the individuals that form its backbone. Somewhere along the line, amidst the hustle and bustle of our daily routine, I found myself not just leading a team but becoming a part of a Maryland family. Your kindness, support, and friendship have touched me in ways I never thought possible, and for that, I am eternally grateful.

“As I embark on the next chapter of my journey, I leave with a heart full of memories and a deep sense of pride in all that we have accomplished together. While my time here may be drawing to a close, know that the connections we have made will endure long after my departure. Thank you for your hard work, dedication, and friendship. It has been an honor and a privilege to serve alongside each and every one of you.”
