Stakes purses total almost $7M in final three months

Almost $7 million in stakes purses will be up for grabs in Maryland from Oct. 1 through Dec. 26 under the fourth-quarter schedule released by the Maryland Jockey Club.
The schedule includes $2.7 million in purses for Oct. 3, Preakness Stakes Day, when there will be 12 stakes including the $1 million, Grade I Preakness and $250,000, Grade II Black-eyed Susan Stakes. (The $100,000 purse for the President of the UAE Cup Arabian stakes does not come from the Maryland Purse Account.) The six-day Pimlico meet will be held Sept. 24-26 and Oct. 1-3.
Three stakes worth a total of $400,000 are scheduled for Oct. 1, followed by the $400,000 “Claiming Crown Preview” and $250,000, Grade 3 Pimlico Special.
