Fire & Disaster Insurance

No-Cost Protection for Horses Stabled and Racing in Maryland

As part of its commitment to Maryland’s horsemen, the Maryland Thoroughbred Horsemen’s Association provides Fire & Disaster Insurance coverage at no cost to eligible members. This valuable benefit helps protect owners and trainers against financial loss resulting from the death or humane destruction of a horse caused by covered perils, including fire, lightning, windstorm, smoke, and flood.

Coverage applies to horses located at Laurel Park, Pimlico Race Course, and the Maryland State Fairgrounds at Timonium, as well as horses in transit to and from those facilities. Protection also extends to Maryland-based horses traveling to and returning from approved out-of-state racing engagements.

The policy is underwritten by Lloyd’s Underwriters, with premium costs reimbursed by track management, ensuring this important protection remains available to Maryland horsemen at no direct cost.
