The Renaissance Awards are Maryland’s premier annual recognition program honoring the outstanding people and horses that make our Thoroughbred industry thrive. Presented jointly by the Maryland Thoroughbred Horsemen’s Association (MTHA) and the Maryland Horse Breeders Association (MHBA), the awards celebrate the achievements of Maryland’s top owners, trainers, jockeys, breeders, backstretch workers, and equine athletes from the previous racing season.

Established to showcase the excellence, dedication, and horsemanship that define Maryland racing, the Renaissance Awards recognize both human and equine accomplishments across a wide range of categories. From champion Maryland-breds and outstanding racehorses to the horsemen and horsewomen who care for, train, ride, and manage them, the program highlights the individuals whose hard work fuels the success of our industry.

Each year, finalists are selected through a combination of industry expertise, statistical performance, and voting by MTHA leadership and other knowledgeable members of the racing community. Award winners are announced during the annual Renaissance Awards celebration, bringing together horsemen, breeders, owners, fans, and industry stakeholders to recognize the very best of Maryland Thoroughbred racing and breeding.
