Health Fairs

Preventive Care Today. Better Health Tomorrow.

The Maryland Thoroughbred Horsemen’s Association and the Maryland Horsemen’s Assistance Foundation are committed to helping Maryland’s backstretch workers and their families live healthier lives. One of the most important ways we do that is through the annual Backstretch Health Fair at Laurel Park.
Many serious health conditions can be successfully treated—or even prevented from becoming life-threatening—when they are detected early. The Backstretch Health Fair provides free access to a wide range of health screenings and wellness services designed to identify potential health concerns before they become major problems.

Conducted in partnership with Adventist HealthCare LifeWork Strategies and MedStar Health, the Health Fair offers participants the opportunity to receive valuable preventive screenings and health assessments in a convenient and supportive environment. Medical professionals are available throughout the event to answer questions, discuss results, and provide guidance on maintaining long-term health and wellness.

serviceS available:

• Bloodwork and laboratory testing
• Lipid and cholesterol profiling
• Blood pressure screenings
• Body composition and body fat analysis
•Carbon monoxide screenings
• Skin cancer screenings
• PSA testing and men’s health screenings
• Health education and wellness consultations

All services are provided free of charge to backstretch employees and their immediate family members.

The Health Fair is typically held each fall at Laurel Park and has helped identify numerous health conditions that may have otherwise gone undetected. By bringing preventive healthcare directly to the backstretch community, the program removes barriers to care and encourages participants to take an active role in managing their health.
