Trainer Commission Program
Faster Access to Earned Commissions
The Maryland Thoroughbred Horsemen’s Association, in partnership with The Maryland Jockey Club, created the Trainer Commission Program to provide trainers with faster and more convenient access to earned purse commissions.
Approved unanimously by the MTHA Board of Directors, the program authorizes the Horsemen’s Bookkeeper to automatically deduct and distribute the standard 10% gross trainer commission from purse earnings for horses finishing first, second, or third in overnight races and stakes. Similar to the system used for jockey payments, the program streamlines the payment process and allows trainers to receive earned commissions more quickly after purses are released.
Participation in the program is voluntary and requires advance enrollment. Trainers must submit a completed enrollment form and IRS Form W-9. Once received, applications are reviewed and verified by the MTHA before being securely transmitted to the TMJC Bookkeeping Department for processing.
Upon approval, trainers will have access to their cleared commission earnings through their Horsemen’s Account, providing a faster, more efficient alternative to traditional commission collection methods.
